Our Testing Methodology
How we test products to bring you honest, useful reviews
At TechRateHub, we take testing seriously. Our methodology is designed to mirror how you’ll actually use a product, so our reviews reflect real-world performance and value. Here’s how we do it.
How Long We Test Products
We don’t rush. Every product we review is used for a minimum of two weeks. For laptops, smartphones, and other primary devices, we often test for four weeks or more. This gives us time to evaluate battery life over multiple charge cycles, spot software quirks, and form a reliable opinion on build quality and long-term usability.
Testing Criteria
We evaluate every product against the same core criteria, weighted by category:
- Performance: Speed, responsiveness, and ability to handle typical and demanding tasks. We run real workloads—not just benchmarks—so you see how the product behaves in daily use.
- Design & build quality: Materials, fit and finish, ergonomics, and durability. We consider how the product feels to use over time and whether it’s likely to hold up.
- Display / screen: Brightness, color accuracy, readability outdoors, and refresh rate where relevant. For phones and laptops, the screen is a major part of the experience.
- Battery life: Real-world usage patterns: mixed use, video playback, and standby. We report what we actually get, not only manufacturer claims.
- Value: How the product compares to alternatives at a similar price. We ask whether it’s worth the money for the intended audience.
For phones we also assess camera quality in different lighting and software experience (updates, features, and ease of use). For audio products we evaluate sound quality, fit, and noise cancellation where applicable.
How We Obtain Products
We use a mix of purchased products and review samples provided by manufacturers or retailers. When we receive a sample, we say so in the review. Either way, our opinions are our own: we never promise positive coverage in exchange for access, and brands cannot influence our ratings or conclusions. For more on this, see our Editorial Policy.
Who Tests Products
Our reviews are written by experienced tech reviewers with backgrounds in hardware, software, and consumer electronics. Each reviewer has years of experience testing and comparing products. You can learn more about our team on our Author and About pages.
